![]() Beginning in 2005, the system was reconstructed to include more lanes and open road tolling, the latter of which uses I-Pass transponders to collect revenue as vehicles pass antennas at toll plazas or designated entrance or exit ramps. The system opened in 1958 in the Chicago area, and has subsequently expanded to include the eastern and central sections of Interstate 88 (I-88) extending into the northwestern part of the state. The roads, as well as the authority itself, are sometimes referred to as the Illinois Tollway. state of Illinois charged with building, operating, and maintaining toll roads in the state. No fees whatsoever. The Illinois State Toll Highway Authority ( ISTHA) is an administrative agency of the U.S. Only NYSBA and Thruway EZP are sold in retail locations, so there is no chance you can get stuck with one from Port Authority. She said simply to get an EZP On The Go at a retail location (there are many in NY) and then register that EZP on the Web site. So many people have unwittingly gotten stuck with a Port Authority EZP and its accompanying fees.īut she had a great suggestion, which I will try. She was sure that if you're from upstate NY, you'll be given a Thruway EZP elsewhere in NY or out-of-state, you won't know until you receive the EZP in the mail. So how do they determine which EZP (NYSBA, Thruway, Port Authority) you receive when you apply? It's based on geography and other factors, an algorithm that none of the customer service reps know. It is also true that if you go through their individual Web sites, you end up at the same application form. It is true that NYSBA and Thruway do not charge any fees Port Authority does ($1/month). Actually, I called three times until I got a rep who was amazing in her knowledge. To clear up the confusion about the three NY entities that can issue EZP, I called customer service. So all in … does a lot more than a basic EZ Pass Plus it’s 100% account manageable / customizable on line It is that one & done convenience that’s attractive It’s also nice cuz it it transportable between vehiclesĪnd comes in black or white to blend in with most car decorĪnd although it’s a tad more to buy & set up from other e-toll services ![]() Then it went on to amalgamate all these 19 states into just one pass / transponder that does it all It originated in Florida … (IIRC it used to have a different name) … and is the go to choice for snowbirds for sureĬuz it effectively amalgamated all of the previous Florida Toll Roads into just one pass … If one drives a lot of the USA regularly … Eastern Seaboard thru to the Great Lake States Note that most toll station lanes you go thru give you no idea that your transponder is actually working (some do give a green light that the transponder is recognized) but mine worked fine for the entire trip. It will also work on the Rainbow Bridge, Whirlpool Rapids Bridge (NEXUS card required) and Lewiston-Queenston Bridge. use these lanes) with E-PASS, SunPass, LeeWay, PeachPass, NC QuickPass, E-ZPass, RiverLink and I-PASS toll systems.Į-ZPass will work on Canada’s Peace Bridge, which connects Buffalo, New York, with Fort Erie, Ontario. Pennsylvania, Maine, West Virginia, New York, Ohio New Jersey, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Kentucky, Virginia The Uni works on all toll roads and most bridges in the following states:įlorida (including I-4 Express lanes), Maryland, Rhode Island, Indiana, Georgia, Delaware, Illinois, Minnesota, North Carolina NY) it may be cost effective to use that states e-pass transponder as there may be additional discounts? I read with the Uni pass, you only get extra discounts for using the transponder in Florida, Georgia and I believe North Carolina. If you are primarily using if for one state (i.e. My pass currently has $4.xx on it, there are no monthly fees and you can easily check your balance with the app. I spent $20.84 in tolls for the return trip inc. I was driving down to Myrtle beach from Ontario via i79 and the Uni does 19-States (mostly eastern sea board) so it was convenient for me. I recall when activating it did not automatically recognize my transponder # (use the FL ID#) on the pass but eventually it recognized it as a "UNI" and the rest was easy. You must add money to the pass with a $10 minimum each time. If you do it will auto update $10 the pass when it goes under $10 I believe. You register it via your car lic plate etc and I put a total of $25 onto the pass but did NOT do automatic CC updates. It was ($23.43 US inc shipping) worked out to a little over $30 CDN. I purchased the multi-state e-pass uni from (U.S.) in April 2022 when I found out many of the U.S.
